A watch box does one job: it gives every watch a place, so nothing sits loose in a drawer picking up marks from whatever else is in there. The rest is fit and finish.

The range here runs from 5 to 12 slots, in velvet-lined layouts with clear lids, briefcase-style boxes with a handle, and versions with an additional drawer for straps, cufflinks and spare links. Several can be personalised with a name, which is what turns a box into a gift.

Two things decide which one suits you, and neither is the slot count on the label. First, the space it will live in — measure the dresser or shelf, and allow clearance for the lid to open. Second, the size of your largest watch: a 44mm case on a steel bracelet needs a cushion it can sit on without being pressed against the lid.

Sunglasses get damaged in two ordinary ways: stacked on a shelf where frames rub against each other, and loose in a bag where keys and zips do the rubbing. These organisers deal with both.

For frames kept at home, a display box with individual velvet-lined slots and a clear lid keeps each pair separated and visible — you stop lifting three pairs to find the fourth. Sizes run from four to eight slots. For frames that travel, a foldable case takes up less room in a bag and holds its shape when full, and the versions with a mirror are genuinely useful when you are trying frames on away from home.

Count the pairs you actually wear and add one or two. If you own oversized frames, check they sit without pressing against the lid.
